What is Hashimoto's (Thyroid) Disease? What are Thyroid Nodules? How to Shrink Them without Surgery!

Hi friends....

I shrunk my thyroid nodules by more than 1/12th of its original size in 2 months. They were unable to extract any cells at all using the needle biopsy.

A thyroid nodule is a firm lump in the thyroid gland, can be cancerous or benign (not cancerous). If found to be cancerous, or if are benign but they become too large, doctors routinely cut out the thyroid gland and put you on medication for the rest of your life!  That was NOT happening to this holistic healer!

When I asked my endocrinologist what would happen if the nodule was found to be cancerous, he didn't answer audibly. He simply made a cut-your-throat hand motion! Did he think that was cute? I thought it was pretty unprofessional personally!  I told him, "I'm going to heal it!"

Even though I wasn't 100% confident at the time that I could, my years of cancer research paid off beautifully. And when he delivered the results of my biopsy (my larger nodule had shrunk from 1.3cm to .08 x .1mm). He didn't even mention the second one which was much smaller.  Maybe it was gone altogether? When we talked and he found that my treatments had worked, he didn't even ask how I did it...I offered, but he wasn't interested. Wouldn't he want to help his other patients? I guess not. He sounded unhappy and unimpressed. Hmmm ....would that surgery might have paid for his next vacation?

Most people have never heard of Hashimoto's Disease. I had heard of it when I was diagnosed, but didn't know much about it. I knew a lot about health, because I had been an avid health researcher for 20 years by that time, but I had no idea of the learning curve I was about to embark on!

Shockingly, about four times as many people have Hashimoto's disease than those with Multiple Sclerosis, but most people have heard of MS...while hardly anyone knows what Hashimoto's disease is or how serious it is. They are both autoimmune diseases and have similarities but people with MS sometimes lose their ability to walk which makes their disease very physically disabling in a way that is visable and more apparent to others. Hashimoto's is also physically disabling but in different ways. The physical, mental and emotional decline of both of these diseases, I have learned, can be prevented and reversed.

There are many people that are conquering these two and many other autoimmune diseases with alternative and nutritional therapies that their mainstream doctors are not aware of or do not recommend for whatever reason. Mainstream physicians are focused on drug treatments for each condition and are so busy that most of them just don't have to time to thoroughly research nutrition and alternative therapies.

The following graphic shows all the bodily tissues that can be affected by autoimmune illness. Once you are diagnosed with one autoimmune disease, you are prone to getting others if you don't get your immune system under control. Unfortunately, this means giving up gluten, which causes a myriad of problems. Although this is a controversial topic, the experts from all over the world on gluten agree that it should not be eaten in any amount by people with autoimmune disease. I will be sharing more on this in future newsletters and blog entries.
The statistic I previously mentioned (four times as many people have Hashimoto's disease....) only takes into account the number of people that have been diagnosed. Sadly, many people go undiagnosed for many years with Hashimoto's disease because the symptoms begin with common issues that many people face as they age....such as weight gain, chronic fatigue, mood imbalances, skin problems, digestive problems, dry hair, brittle nails, poor concentration...and more. Most of these issues can be explained away and many doctors don't put all the variables together and figure out the root cause...which is the thyroid. This disease progresses if not treated and can lead to heart disease, diabetes, and cancer. Some people become completely bedridden from fatigue, brain fog, depression, and body pain. This doesn't have to happen. If only doctors were more on the ball when it comes to thyroid disease! I went to at least six different doctors asking about my thyroid and was not getting anywhere. I wasted years feeling miserable thanks to well-meaning but poorly trained medical people. If only I knew then what I know now. That's why I am so passionate about helping other people to avoid the same path. Life is short! No time to waste!

What clued me in to the fact that I had a thyroid problem - besides the weight gain and fatigue, was that the outer third of my eyebrows had thinned out...completely. This is uniquely attributed to thyroid problems. Sensitivity to hot or cold temperatures is another feature that is rather unique to thyroid problems. I believe I went undiagnosed for about 10 years. I was  in my mid-30's and I was prematurely aging, gaining weight, suffering with depression, anxiety, body pain, eczema, acne, constipation, dry hair, hair loss, brittle nails, dry eyes, and terrible brain fog. My thyroid hormone imbalance affected my other hormones and caused 2 weeks of horrible PMS every month, and my cycle shortened from every 28 days to every 24-26 days. This only left me with one good week out of the month!

Another reason many people go undiagnosed is because doctors do not know of a drug that lowers the thyroid antibodies. They typical treatment is to prescribe thyroid hormones if your thyroid hormones are out of range. I wrote about this in more detail in my last newsletter. Feel free to contact me if you'd like a copy.  It's actually more complicated and this is only one of those complications:  A prescription drug actually DOES exist that lowers antibodies but they don't prescribe it because it's an off-label use. They prescribe plenty of other drugs for off label uses, but when it comes to this drug, with virtually no side effects, that costs only $20/month...they shy away.Makes no sense right? Maybe if the drug was very expensive and they received a bigger cut, their eyes and ears would open up a little more.

Triggers and Nutritional Factors with Hashimoto's

Most patients with Hashimoto's and hypothyroidism will experience nutrient deficiencies,
food allergies, chronic fatigue, leaky gut and adrenal fatigue. Symptoms of impaired digestion/absorption, anxiety, acid reflux, anemia, and chemical/environmental allergies may also be present. These issues if left untreated can lead to other autoimmune diseases, and even cancer so it is important not only to medicate, but to address any nutritional deficiencies. For example, most if not all women I have talked to or worked with that have Hashimoto's disease are deficient in Vitamin D. There are a number of minerals that are also commonly deficient. Eating a highly nutrient-dense diet is critical to feeling better. Also of great importance is removing foods that trigger symptoms. Gluten is the most common triggers. Others include dairy, eggs, soy, sugar, caffeine, and peanuts or tree nuts.

One common theme that also presents in many clients and associates I've worked with is insulin resistance. This a serious problem that makes it very difficult to lose weight and/or stop gaining weight. If this is not brought under control through dietary changes, detox methods and targeted supplements, it can turn into diabetes.

There are many triggers that can kick Hashimoto's and other autoimmune diseases into action. They include heavy metals toxicity, leaky gut syndrome, genetic weakness, and infectious organisms (such as Lyme disease, H-Pylori, Epstein Barr, or other viruses/bacteria that confuse your immune system). Once the process of autoimmunity starts, it's a lifelong issue that you must struggle to balance so my hope is to help people not only to go into remission from autoimmunity, but to prevent it from happening in the first place, especially in their children.

If you have Hashimoto's disease, it is possible to go into remission but it requires effort and dedication. You have to love yourself enough and be motivated enough to make choices that are not always easy. But there is no better feeling than when your energy is flying high, your pain is gone, you feel happy/calm again, your vision improves, your brain is sharp again and you are productive again!! Then you see that your efforts have paid off! It's a wonderful feeling! I
